Chetan Chauhan: No sports ties with Pakistan till terrorism is curbed

NEW DELHI: Former cricketer Chetan Chauhan on Saturday echoed Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Anurag Thakur’s statements+ about India-Pakistan cricket, by saying there was no need for India to play matches with its neighbour until terrorism was curbed.

“(We) shouldn’t play, (we) shouldn’t even think about it,” Chauhan – who is currently the Chairman of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) – told ANI. “As long as terrorism doesn’t end, we don’t have to have any relationship (with Pakistan),” he added.

And he clarified his statement: “Not just cricket ties, there’s no need to have any sports ties.”

Chauhan’s comments came a day after BCCI President Anurag Thakur on Friday said “the question of playing against Pakistan does not arise.”

“We have defeated Pakistan in three wars and all the world cup cricket matches. We can still maul Pakistan. But it is important to isolate it globally,” he said.
